Japanese conductor Hikotaro Yazaki will return to lead a professional orchestra and a youth orchestra in two concerts this week and next.
The "Treasure Recovered" concert will take place at Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel, Ratchadamri Road, on Thursday March 28 at 7.30pm. It will see the maestro leading Pro Musica Orchestra with Tasana Nagavajara as violin soloist in a performance of Petite Suite by Carl Nielsen from Denmark and Holberg Suite by Edvard Grieg from Norway.
Also featured is the world premiere of ML Usni Pramoj's Violin Concerto. Dedicated to Tasana, the concerto was constructed in a contemporary Western classical-music style but with personal oriental flavour by the composer, a process which displays a variety of emotions from the slow, sad sections to the faster-paced ones, containing syncopated jazz rhythms.
Yazaki will then conduct SSMS Orchestra in a grand concert titled "The Hero" at the Mahisorn Hall of SCB Park Plaza, Ratchadaphisek Road, on April 7 at 5pm.
The programme will feature Symphony No.3 (Eroica), one of Beethoven's most celebrated works that marked the beginning of his creative middle period; the Petite Symphonie For Winds by Charles Gounod; and the Marimba Concerto by Emmanuel Sejourne.
The SSMS Orchestra is comprised of young musicians who attend the annual residential Silpakorn Summer Music School. Every year, the school brings top students to make music and perform together during their summer break.
Tickets for the first show cost 600 baht (100 baht for students) and can be reserved by emailing promusica.bkk@gmail.com Tickets for the second show cost 500 baht (100 baht for students) and are available at the door.
