Classic UK chocolate treats set to downsize before Christmas

  • Classic chocolate treats such as Quality Street, Celebrations, and Toblerone are being reduced in size ahead of Christmas.
  • This downsizing is primarily due to a significant spike in cocoa bean prices, caused by below-average global cocoa harvests.
  • Specific weight reductions include Quality Street from 600g to 550g, Celebrations from 550g to 500g, and Toblerone from 360g to 340g.
  • The price of chocolate in UK stores has already increased by 17.2 per cent in the year to July, according to official cost of living data.
  • Manufacturers confirm these adjustments are necessary to manage rising production costs, particularly for cocoa, as poor harvests in West Africa are expected to continue.
