Classic cars crowd raise funds for hospice

A CROWD of more than a 1000 enthusiasts were treated to a feast of classic and unusual cars as they raised funds for a Scottish hospice.

Some 100-plus vehicles attended this year’s Classics at Castle Semple, which netted £2200 for St Vincent’s Hospice in nearby Howwood, Renfrewshire.

Fans were able to see the cars cruising in and out of the scenic lochside location at Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park’s Castle Semple Centre at Lochwinnoch. There were also hospice stalls and a guess the balloons in the Landrover game to boost funds, too.

Three awards were presented by local sponsor Graeme Skelton of Power Doors. Best in Show went to Mike Murchie and his Jaguar 3.4, with Scott Ballantyne earning runner-up spot with his VW MkI Golf.

The Clyde Muirshiel Judges Choice Award, chosen by park countryside ranger Pat Emslie and the youth volunteers was won by BJ Conway with a Mini Clubman rally car. The runner-up was Brian Shaw in his Plymouth Baracuda.

The Geoff Proven Most Unusual Vehicle was given to David McAusland for his Land Rover Fire Engine, while Richard Stanley with his very rare MKI Escort camper was runner-up.

Organiser Jane Fawcett said: “What an incredible day we had. It is such a sociable show, especially in the sunshine – everyone was grinning and chatting about all he interesting vehicles on display.

“Car owners are to be thanked for bringing there stunning cars and visitors are equally to be thanked for their generous donations.”
