Classes decimated as one-in four kids are ill at home

More than 70 sick kids have had to be kept at home after a contagious bug hit their school.

About one quarter of children at Coylton Primary are currently ill - and at one stage parents heard it was nearer one in three.

One mum said: "You can see the difference in the playground, it is very noticeable many are off.

"My wee one is now back at school after a couple of days being miserable and feeling really washed-out.

"Hopefully this nasty bug will get out of everyone's system before Christmas."

The popular schools has a roll of around 285.

South Ayrshire Council spokesman Kenny Ross said: "Around a quarter of pupils at Coylton Primary School are off at the moment with flu like symptoms.

"Most have been off for a day or two and advice to parents is to keep children off if their temperature remains high or constant coughing is making them feel sick.

"If symptoms persist we are advising parents to seek advice from their GP."

It is not known whether other schools in South Ayrshire have been affected.
