Class review: Lift at Frame

Up and away: Frame's Lift class in action (Picture: Frame)

When and where

Frame’s King’s Cross studio, Thursdays at 6pm.

What’s the drill?

A 45-minute weights class that’s all about the tunes: think bicep curls, barbell lifts and tricep dips to the beat of the music — perfect to get you in the mood for Thursday-night drinks. Instructor Georgia demos each move at the start and tells you which colour weights to pick depending on whether you’re a beginner, medium or a pro. Everyone then does the same moves. Expect lunges, squats and plenty of pulsing. There’s a warm-down at the end.

The skinny

Commit regularly and you’ll tone up, fast. There are three different weight options so you can come with a friend if you’re different abilities and there’s plenty of room for progression.

The social network

Mostly women but there are some male regulars, too. Expect young professionals and dance-types looking to work on their strength in a fun, non-macho environment.

Instructor appeal

Georgia usually does the Thursday class. She’s straightforward and bubbly, talking you through each move safely and wandering the room when you’re lying down lifting on the floor.

What to pack

Just a water bottle. Towels are provided at reception and lockers are smart — just tap in a four-digit code.

The sounds

Old-school classics and cheesy tunes from Eurythmics’s Sweet Dreams to Sex On Fire by Kings of Leon.

Locker-room chat

Expect a bright, airy lobby on arrival offering a selection of Frame and Nike kit to buy, jugs of water and magazines on the tables. Reception has a range of Nakd bars, hot drinks and smoothies, too. In the changing rooms there are five shower cubicles with Bumble and Bumble shampoo and conditioner, and hairdryers and straighteners are available next to the mirrors. The lockers are in the main lobby so you won’t disturb people post-shower when going to collect your kit.

Tips for first-timers

Choose the beginner weights if you’re a newbie. Georgia will show you how to attach them to your barbell bar.

The afterburn

Expect shaky arms after the class. You’ll feel it in your shoulders and quads the next day.
