Scoring 98.8% marks, three students from Bhavan Vidyalaya, Sector 15, Panchkula, and another from Delhi Public School, Chandigarh, emerged toppers in the tricity in the Class-10 Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) results announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Since 2010, Class-10 students were being graded through the Cumulative Grade Points Average (CGPA) under the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) system, which was replaced by the annual examinations system this year.
Abhinn from Delhi Public School, and Aniket Chaudhri, Garima Gupta and Rahul Jassal from Bhavan Vidyalaya have bagged the top scores in Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali.
They are followed by six students who scored 98.6% marks to share the second rank in the tricity. While Ritika Chadda is also from Bhavan Vidyalaya, Panchkula, five are from Chandigarh schools — Anhad Kaur Mehta, Aarushi Doomra and Parul of Bhavan Vidyalaya, Sector 27; Akula Aggarwal of KBDAV, Sector 7; and Isha Rawat of Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Sector 37.
Four students from tricity schools shared the third rank with 98.4% marks. One of them is Tanish Tuteja from Bhavan Vidyalaya, Panchk ula, while the others are from Chandigarh schools — Harshika Verma from DAV School (Lahore), Sector 8; Sarthak Kohli from Ajit Karam Singh International Public School, Sector 41; and Riva Gupta from KBDAV School, Sector 7.
Poor show in Chandigarh
UT stared at massive embarrassment in the results with a massive drop in the pass percentage from 96.26% in 2017 to 66.21% this year. Of the total 17,873 students appearing in Chandigarh, just 11,834 cleared the exam.
Mohali had the highest pass percentage in the tricity at 93.24%. It dipped from 98.37% last year. Panchkula registered an overall pass percentage of 91.55% against 98.57% last year.
While tricity schools, both government and private, are struggling to find the reasons, experts believe schools were tasting the reality of scrapping of the CCE grading system. CBSE’s local councillor Madhu Bahl said CCE system allowed schools to assess students’ performance at their end. Now, it will take one or two years for students to improve their performance under the annual exam system, she said.
