Clash: police book cases against 17 people

The Vellarada police registered a case against nearly 20 people in connection with a clash that broke out between local residents and police personnel over the functioning of an asphalt mixing plant on Saturday.

The police booked 17 residents of Nellissery near Vellarada in connection with an agitation against efforts made by members of an action council to implement a court order to reopen the plant that was established by the petitioner, Sreekantan, six months ago. Many people including police officers were injured in the clash.

The plant had been shut down soon after its launch owing to the local residents’ protest. The complainant had obtained a favourable order after moving the Kerala High Court three months ago, the police said.
