Jeremy Clarkson will be furious. He's only come tenth in a list of the top 10 most polluting celebrity motorists. Even worse, his Top Gear colleague Richard Hammond came eighth. Still, at least he can console himself that James May is nowhere to be seen. Jenson Button topped the survey by car rental firm City Car Club, which calculated that the Formula One world champion's various cars have an average carbon emission of 383.1g/km, nearly three times the average output of your typical family car. And that's not including the one Button drives round a track. Simon Cowell – his vehicles include various Rolls-Royces, an Aston Martin, a Lamborghini, a Bugatti and ... a Mini Cooper – comes third, ahead of Gordon Ramsay in seventh, Hammond in eighth and Clarkson bottom of the pile. The City Car Club reckons Jezza owns (deep breath): a Lamborghini Gallardo, a Volvo XC90, a Ford Focus, a BMW M5, a Aston Martin V8 Vantage, a Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG, a Mercedes-Benz CLK AMG, a Range Rover TDV8 Vogue SE, two VW Sciroccos, a BMW Z4, a Toyota Land Cruiser Amazon and a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X. Imagine the size of his garage. Average carbon emission: 274.3g/km. Must do better.
