The mayor of a town in Georgia has died in hospital after suffering gunshot wounds during an apparent "domestic dispute", according to local media reports.
Hospital officials at the Atlanta Medical Center old reporters the mayor of Clarkesville, Terry Greene, had died after police were called to his home on Sunday night.
According to Atlanta-based WGCL, Dr Greene was found lying on the floor of his home with a gunshot wound to his head.
No arrests have been made, but investigators from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation were called in by local police officers, WGCL reported.
Clarkesville is a small town around 85 miles from Atlanta, and had been presided over by Dr Greene since he was elected mayor in 2005.
A husband and fther of four, Dr Greene has been involved in local politics since 1999 and also ran a private medical practice in Habersham County.
