Clarke names Scotland XI for Iceland friendly with striker given first start

Steve Clarke has named his Scotland team to face Iceland this evening.

Arnar Gunnlaugsson's side are in Glasgow for an international friendly.

The Scots are looking to get back to winning ways following a 3-1 aggregate defeat to Greece in a UEFA Nations League A play-off in March.

Scott McTominay's penalty gave the national team a memorable 1-0 victory in Piraeus, only for the Greeks to come to Hampden and overturn that scoreline by quite the margin in the second leg a few days later.

Iceland come into tonight's friendly off the back of their own UEFA Nations League play-off loss. They were beaten 5-2 over two legs by Kosovo a few months back.

For the upcoming clash at Hampden, Clarke has made five changes to his team that was well beaten by Greece last time out.

Angus Gunn starts between the sticks as Kieran Tierney comes in to make his 50th cap. Billy Gilmour begins in midfield fresh off the back of winning the Scudetto, as George Hirst starts for the first time up front.

Scotland starting XI: Gunn, Robertson, McTominay, Hanley, Tierney, McGinn, Gilmour, Hirst, Souttar, Ferguson, Johnston.

Subs: McCrorie, Slicker, Ralston, Adams, Conway, Hendry, Miller, McKenna, Irving, Wilson, Barron, Doig, Patterson, Bowie.
