Merseyside-based power generation firm Clarke Energy has acquired TEB Energy Business and subsidiary business Genelco Power Systems.
The acquisitions of Bucharest-based TEB and Athens-based Genleco will see Knowsley-headquartered Clarke Energy expand its reach to 27 countries.
Founded by Jim Clarke in 1989, Clarke Energy is one of the largest distributors of INNIO Jenbacher, having sold and installed more than 6.9 GW of power generation equipment globally.
Both TEB and Genelco are authorised distributors for engine manufacturer INNIO Jenbacher in Romania and Greece, respectively.
Jamie Clarke, president of Clarke Energy and son of founder Jim Clarke, said the acquired firms “share many synergies” with the firm.
“We aim to support and grow these businesses using our expertise in the gas engine sector and continue to deliver industry-leading levels of equipment performance.”
He said there is a “significant installed base” of gas engines in Romania and Greece.
The firm will bring its expertise to support customers and their gas engines’ long-term performance through training, investment in local parts supplies, remote monitoring, and support from the wider Clarke Energy group, he added.
Clarke Energy said the Romanian gas engine segment is characterised by growth in the combined heat and power plant industry, while Greece is characterised by growth in the biogas sector.
The firm has “significant experience” in both areas, it said.
Clarke Energy, which employs more than 1,200 people globally, has taken on an additional 38 new employees as a result of the acquisition - 30 from TEB and 8 from Genleco.
