Clark the Cub surprises fans around town with 'W' flags, posters

Oct. 06--Despite the gloomy weather, Clark, the official Cubs mascot, bounded into Millennium Park on Tuesday morning carrying a white "W" flag and weaving through visitors who were taking pictures of the Bean.

Once they got over their initial surprise at seeing the pantsless bear running around, people began to murmur excitedly, nudging each other to grab a picture. Before long, Clark was surrounded by adoring fans.

"Let's go Cubs! Let's go Cubs!" chanted a group of high schoolers from Carl Sandburg High School as they clutched their newly acquired #FlyTheW posters.

"I love it!" said Ryan Nemeh, 17, who was on a field trip with his classmates. "I didn't expect it."

"It's just beautiful," added his friend and classmate Brandon McLin, 17. "It's my first time here and it totally made my day."

Clark popped up at various Chicago locations throughout the day to encourage people to #FlyTheW flag in support of the Cubs, who are playing a wild-card game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday. The team shared videos and pictures on social media from each location and passed out posters and flags emblazoned with a "W" like the one the Cubs fly at Wrigley Field when they win.

A woman squealed when Clark mussed up her hair as they were taking a picture.

"I hate you!" she said to him and giggled, grinning widely for the camera. Clark just gave the camera a thumbs-up.
