Former Aberdeen defender Clark Robertson hopes to cap a memorable season by forcing his way into Steve Clarke ’s Euro 2020 reckoning.
The 26-year-old is celebrating promotion to the English Championship with Rotherham after the EFL called the lower two divisions on a points per game basis.
The Millers finished second behind Coventry City and Robertson hopes the elevated status will help him make a push on the international front with a huge Euro 2020 play-off against Israel looming.
Robertson made 22 appearances last season before a foot injury ruled him out after New Year.
But the former Scotland U21 international is back fit and aiming for a first call-up to Clarke’s top team.
"I have still got ambitions of playing for Scotland,” he told BBC Scotland.
"I think you have got to be playing at the highest level to do that, hopefully playing in the Championship will enable me to get to that level.
"I maybe have gone a little bit under the radar since I came down to England.”
Robertson left Aberdeen in 2015 after 68 first team appearances for his home town club.
He spent three years at Blackpool before moving to Rotherham in 2018 and has been a regular for Paul Warne’s side who have won promotion back to the second tier at the first time of asking.
"I think when I left a lot of Aberdeen fans maybe wrote me off and didn't think I would make it,” Robertson said.
"But I always had the belief and determination that coming down to England would kick-start my career and it has done.
"I am feeling fitter than I ever have been and my body feels strong again."
