Clark eyes further Scotland progression in 2023 under Martinez Losa

KELLY CLARK is excited about the prospect of Scotland making further strides forward under head coach Pedro Martinez Losa in 2023.

The Scots signed off a bitter-sweet year with a 2-1 friendly win over Venezuela in Cadiz, Spain, on Monday and Clark believes they are on an upward curve despite the agony of missing out on the World Cup when they lost to Ireland in a play-off last month.

“I think we just want even more progression going into the new year,” the Celtic defender said. “I think if you compare us from when Pedro and the staff first came in (in July 2021), it’s night and day.

“The progression is clear for everyone to see. It’s obviously been a bit of a disappointing year but we just need to look at how far we’ve come on and be excited about how we can grow because we’ve got some great potential in the changing room.”

Clark was thrilled to notch her first international goal in what she felt was a “pretty dominant” victory over Venezuela on Monday.

“It’s a total dream come true,” she said. “It’s been a pretty incredible year for me. This time last year was the first time I was called up and if you’d told me that a year later I would have scored a goal, I’d never have believed you.”
