Claremont Terrace fire: Car bursts into flames and 'falls from parking lot' in Glasgow's west end

Firefighters raced to extinguish a blaze after a car 'fell from a parking lot' and burst into flames in dramatic scenes in Glasgow's west end.

Fire crews were called to incident at Claremont Terrace in the city's Park District area shortly after 10.30pm last night.

A local resident and eyewitness told Glasgow Live they heard 'two booms' and thought there were fireworks going off, before seeing a blazing blue SUV fall from the parking lot.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have this morning advised thankfully no-one was injured following the shock incident.

An SFRS spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 10.41pm on Tuesday, February 2 to reports of a vehicle fire in Glasgow.

"Operations Control mobilised one fire appliance to the city's Claremont Terrace, where firefighters extinguished the fire which had taken hold of a private car.

"Crews worked to make the area safe before leaving the scene.

"There were no casualties."

Glasgow Live have contacted Police Scotland for comment.

UPDATE: Police have since confirmed they are treating the fire as 'suspicious'.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.45pm on Tuesday, 2 February, we received a report of a car on fire on Claremont Terrace in Glasgow.

“Emergency services attended and the fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. The vehicle was uplifted around 1.25am on Wednesday, 3 February.

“Enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the fire, which is being treated as suspicious, are ongoing.”
