Clare star Tony Kelly set for spell on the sidelines

Clare talisman Tony Kelly will be on the sidelines for a lengthy spell after undergoing ankle surgery.

The former Hurler of the Year is set go under the knife on Monday after helping his club side Ballyea reach the semi-finals of the Clare Championship.

Kelly came on in the second half of an enthralling clash with Kilmaley on Sunday, with the 27-year-old chipping in with two vital scores as Ballyea recorded a 0-17 to 0-16 victory.

But Clare FM’s Derrick Lynch reported that a sidelined Kelly will miss his club's run for the county title and is also likely to miss next year’s Allianz Hurling League campaign with Clare.

2018 champions Ballyea are joined in the last four by Éire Óg, Inagh-Kilnamona and Newmarket. The draw will be made on Monday night.
