Clare's Walsh Park dress rehearsal a god send ahead of Munster championship opener - Anthony Daly

Anthony Daly says that Clare’s Walsh Park dry run is a godsend ahead of the Munster Championship opener against Waterford.

Waterford’s hopes of emerging from Munster received a shot in the arm earlier this year when it emerged that they would be permitted to play at Walsh Park, with Clare first up on May 12.

The counties already played at the venue on March 16, however, when Waterford streaked to victory in the League quarter-final.

Former Clare boss Daly said: “The best thing that ever happened was losing the toss for the League quarter-final.

Anthony Daly claims Limerick still have the edge heading into intriguing summer

“They probably went somewhere, did a recce themselves, that's what I'd have done myself anyway as management, I'd have taken off with the physical trainer, I'd have stopped off maybe in two hotels, see is this a good distance.

“Some teams go straight to the venue, do their warm up on the pitch, other teams like to come somewhere like Carriganore and then go over or they go to Mount Sion and come down.

“But they'd have been able to do a reccy that day and say what's the best for us. I think that's a huge advantage for us and I presume the boys have that fairly right.

“Lookit, the day and age we live in, timing is everything for that stuff. The GAA will have to have the ball thrown in, with TV and that stuff, at two o'clock.

“If you're in some hotel here, and you've a Garda escort you're going to be getting in there at a quarter to one, that's the way it works.”

Clare were well beaten in that League quarter-final, conceding 0-31 in the process, though Daly says it won’t count for much in three weeks’ time.

“Plenty of talk for three or four days after it. But give it a fortnight and fellas say, 'There's only one day you'll be judged on and that's the 12th of May'.

“I think within the squad they'd be saying that.”
