Clare man jailed for four months after he was found carrying a carving knife

A judge has jailed a man for four months after warning if people are allowed to carry knives, “it will result in further mayhem in our society”.

Larry Connors, from Newmarket-on-Fergus, Co Clare, was charged after he was found with a carving knife during a search at Dunnes Stores in Ennis.

It was claimed he armed himself after receiving a threat to his life.

Judge Patrick Durcan told the town’s district Court yesterday the 27-year-old “has an appalling list of previous convictions that cover a horrific range of offences including cruelty to children and assaults."
