Clare hotel lashes out at 'nonsensical' laws for pubs and restaurants in letter to Health Minister

A Clare hotel has lashed out at proposed new laws for pubs and restaurants, labelling them "nonsensical".

New rules have been put forward in the Dail which state establishments will have to take down what people eat and drink and keep a record of that for 28 days.

Hotel Doolin in Co Clare said it won't be following the rules in a strong statement to Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly.

The hotel bosses said in a statement: "Dear Minister Donnelly.

"Hotel Doolin will not be recording what our customers have to eat for their breakfast, lunch and dinner as we working people have enough to be doing trying our best to keep our business open and everyone safe without following nonsensical laws.

"You, on the other hand, obviously have plenty time on your hands to be coming up with crap like this so I would suggest maybe you go do a day's work experience in a meat factory or have a sleepover in a direct provision centre and see how you like it."

The proposed new measures have seen a huge backlash with Vintners groups describing it as “Big Brother” and “bureaucracy gone mad”.

A spokesman for the Licensed Vintners Association said: “It’s bonkers. Knowing what topping you had on your pizza won’t protect public health.”
