Clare Hall's Nhat Nguyen progresses to last 16 of the Badminton World Championships

Dublin's Nhat Nguyen has progressed to the last 16 of the Badminton World Championships with an impressive win over England's number one Toby Penty.

The Clare Hall racketman won 21-17, 23-21 over the world number 52 in his first game in the championships after getting a walkover from Malta's Jonatan Christie.

Ireland's number one, who missed out on a last 16 place in Rio following a defeat to world number 10 Wang Tzu-Wei of Taiwan, now has a chance to go really far.

The 21-year-old will now face the world number 42, Zhao Jun Peng of China, for a place in the quarter-finals in Huelva, Spain.

25-year-old Zhao beat Japan's Koki Watanabe convincingly in his round of 32 clash and is nine places ahead of Nguyen in the world rankings.
