Clare GAA legend Ger Loughnane's son Conor sadly passes away

Conor Loughnane, the son of Clare GAA legend Ger Loughnane, has sadly passed away.

The well respected RTE pundit and his family learned the tragic news earlier this week.

Conor will be laid to rest over the weekend.

Conor is survived by his heartbroken parents, Mary and Ger, his brother Barry, his adored nephews Harry and Aaron and niece Neila.

He will be missed and fondly remembered by his aunts, uncles, cousins, workmates, and his many friends.

He will repose at McMahon’s Funeral Home, Shannon on Friday February 10 from 4 - 6pm.

Funeral mass will take place at SS. John & Paul Church, Shannon on Saturday February 11 followed by burial in Illaunmanagh Cemetery, Shannon.

Ger is one of Clare's greatest GAA legends.. He played for the Banner for 15 years, winning 2 All-Stars and 2 National Hurling League medals.

He became the team manager in 1994, leading Clare to win the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship in 1995 and 1997. He later managed Galway between 2006 and 2008.

After leaving management, Ger became a pundit with RTÉ's The Sunday Game.

Ger recently opened up about turning 60. He told the Irish Daily Star : "In the old days, reaching 70 was a big deal. You were seen as ancient, but it means absolutely nothing to me.

"It doesn't register in any way as important. My real barometer for where my health is is hunting. If I can go out at 10am and cross fields and ditches and walls until the evening, then your birth date doesn't matter.

"I remember a few years ago going down to Cork for a day's hunting and went in over a ditch to search for a fox. I said to this fella 'are you not going in?' He goes 'do you not realise I'm 60, I can't be going into fields anymore'. And I was actually four years older than him!

"Your health and attitude are the things that decide what real age you are."
