Clare GAA championships face delays as club reports five more positive Covid-19 cases

Clare GAA could be forced to delay the latter stages of their championships as Cratloe GAA club reported five further cases of Covid-19.

The club will now be unable to play their second round SHC clash against Eire Og until at least the weekend of August 22/23 due to shutting down activities.

After a positive test last week, five more cases have been confirmed after health officials tested close contacts.

With the delay to the county's hurling championship, it now means at least one of the quarter-finals won't be played until at least September 8/9 - with the planned September 26/27 dates for county finals now looking increasingly unlikely.

"There was no way any club was being left behind," a Clare GAA spokesperson told the Irish Independent.

"It may mean future games having to be pushed back but Cratloe have been very diligent. There were up to 40 tests carried out and five further positive cases from the results which have been returned."

Clare's Competition Controls Committee are understood to be examining the situation.
