Clare Balding: 'I risk my career to speak out on equal pay but it's worth it'

BBC star Clare Balding says she may have scored a career own goal by fighting for equal pay.

But the sports presenter insists that demanding bosses pay women the same as men was “worth it”. “I’d rather be the person who says it and gets in trouble,” she said.

“I don’t care if they label me a troublemaker. I’m not afraid to be making noise about it, to keep holding people to account to kick up a storm. I might suffer for it. I may have already, but it’s worth it.”

Balding, 48, said other senior BBC women were also fighting for parity to help ensure a level playing field for younger staff.

Coronation Street fans spot blunder as Nick is exposed - but is it a secret twist?

In an interview with Good Housekeeping, out tomorrow, she said: “Everyone needs to know they are equally valued.”
