Clara Amfo shares insight into reality of filming Top Of The Pops in an empty studio

We have watched them dancing in some dubious fashions over the years – but this is the first time ever that Top Of The Pops will have no audience.

But the long-running music TV programme will still be a vibe this year despite the pandemic precautions, says co-host, Clara Amfo.

Clara – who will be presenting this year’s countdown alongside Fearne Cotton – said of the filming in an empty studio: “It was quite surreal.

“Actually being able to do the show, without an audience, it was a challenge but I think we made it work.

"Me and Fearne, we did our links, we had chats with some of the artists.

"And it just almost made you concentrate on the performance.

“The audience was missed but a beautiful show has been made.”

Top Of The Pops Christmas Special – which airs on Christmas Day on BBC One 11.55am – will feature Clean Bandit and Mabel, Becky Hill and Jamie Cullum.
