A murder investigation is underway after a man was stabbed to death in Hackney on Friday night, according to police.

The Metropolitan Police have said they arrested a 27-year-old man at the scene in Clapton, northeast London.

They are currently not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Police were called to a disturbance at 11.30pm and found a man with stab wounds inside a house on Mount Pleasant Lane in Clapton, according to authorities.

The victim died shortly afterwards, the Met Police said.

Enquires are underway to identify the victim and inform his next of kin, according to police.

The suspect remains in police custody.

The latest stabbing follows reports that knife crime in England and Wales has now hit a record high.

Police recorded almost 44,700 offences in England and Wales, which the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said was a new record.

Anyone with information on the Clapton stabbing on the night of 24 January have been asked to contact the Met Police or Crimestoppers.
