Clapton Lane in North Somerset to be closed for five days because speed humps are worn out

Speed humps on a busy village road in North Somerset are to be replaced - for the third time in five years.

Clapton Lane in Clapton-in-Gordano will close for five days later this month for the work to be carried out.

Six speed humps in Clapton Lane were initially installed in 2015 following complaints from residents about the speed of traffic.

They had to be remodelled shortly afterwards after they were deemed too high and started to crumble.

The asphalt humps started to crack again and in 2018 were replaced with rubber ones

Now, they are to be replaced yet again, with the road being closed from November 23 between 8am and 5pm for the work to be carried out.

The work will also see repairs carried out to the carriageway.

The road is a busy route for people travelling from the B3128 into Portishead.

A diversion will be put in place.

Local residents have been written to informing of them of the work to replace the speed cushions and patch the road.

A North Somerset Council spokesman said: “Owing to the nature of the works vehicular access will be impeded during the works.

“This will mean that vehicular access will not be possible.”

Pedestrian access to properties will be maintained although on street parking will be suspended during the work.

Staff will be on site during the road closure advising of access arrangements for residents.

Those wanting to travel from Nailsea into Portishead now face making a diversion through Portbury or along Caswell Lane.
