Clapperboard from Gavin & Stacey Christmas special sells for more than £8,000 on eBay

A one-of-a-kind keepsake from the Gavin & Stacey Christmas special has sold for more than £8,000.

One dedicated fan has paid a grand total of £8,100 to take home a signed clapperboard used to film the hour-long reunion that raked in 11.6 viewers on Christmas Day.

The clapperboard signed by the entire cast - including Ruth Jones, James Corden and Rob Brydon - was listed for auction on Ebay on Boxing Day with a starting price of just £99.

But bidding ended on New Year's Eve at more than 80 times the starting price after attracting a total of 74 bids.

All proceeds raised from the auction will now go towards children's charity Ty Hafan thanks to the initiative by co-writer and Nessa actress Ruth Jones.

The actress is an avid supporter of the charity and all proceeds raised from the auction will go to the hospice, which is  set to take on a £1.5m refurbishment project next year.

In a video posted by Ty Hafan, Ruth said: "There is a very special opportunity for you to win a bit of memorabilia from the Gavin and Stacey Christmas special. It's this rather marvellous clapperboard that's been signed by all the cast. It's a very rare thing and we are going to put it on eBay and auction it in aid of Ty Hafan, which is the most incredible place.

"Ty Hafan is in desperate need of some refurbishment and they are currently trying to raise £1.5m."

Ty Hafan, based in Sully, Vale of Glamorgan, hopes to carry out a significant renovation to give its young patients a hospice "fit for the future".

The revamp will focus on making vital clinical adaptations to the building as well as upgrading its 10 care bedrooms, eight family bedrooms, living and social areas.

The charity also wants to install a wireless nurse call system and air-conditioning in children’s bedrooms.

But the hospice is still short of the money it needs to carry out all the upgrades and needs public support. In November, the hospice was £1m away from its target.
