A man will appear in court charged with attempted murder after allegedly trying to stab a female police officer.

Julian Peters, 35, was arrested after police were called to reports of a disturbance involving a man making threats at an address in Clapham, southwest London, on Tuesday night.

It is claimed that as the officer went to prevent the suspect from fleeing the scene, he tried to stab her at least twice in the stomach.

Mr Peters is due to appear at Camberwell Green Magistrates’ Court on Thursday charged with attempted murder, making threats to kill and one count of points and blades.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Police had been called to reports of a man causing a disturbance and making threats at an address in Lynette Avenue, SW4, shortly after 9pm on Tuesday, 22 October.

“The officer, a female, did not require hospital treatment.”

The officer, who was uninjured, has been commended by the Metropolitan Police after she Tasered the suspect and finished the rest of her shift.

Chief Superintendent Simon Messinger said the officer had acted with “bravery”, adding: “She’ll be back helping keep the streets of south London safe once again.”
