Trains to and from two of London’s busiest stations have been severely disrupted after a person was hit by a train at Clapham Junction.

Services between London Victoria and East Croydon and London Waterloo and Wimbledon are subject to delays and cancellations after the fatality on Wednesday morning.

It is believed the incident took place on platform 13 around 9.20am.

Southern, Gatwick Express and Thameslink services from Victoria were set to be disrupted until 12pm.

South Western Railway trains could be affected until 2pm.

Govia Thameslink advised customers to “delay travelling in this area until later if possible.”

They added: “A person has been hit by a train between London Victoria and East Croydon.

“As a result of this, trains are currently unable to run between these stations and will be cancelled or delayed. This is expected until 12:00.

“Services are currently at a stand in this area and no trains are able to run.”

South Western Railway said: “The emergency services are dealing with an incident between Wimbledon and Vauxhall.

“As congestion has built up in the area, trains will be delayed by up to 30 minutes, cancelled or revised. Some trains will also be unable to call at Clapham Junction.”

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "‘Officers were called to Clapham Junction station at 09.23am this morning following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended and sadly a person has been pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are now working to identify them and inform their family.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 8:54am today to Clapham Junction railway station, to reports of an incident.

"We dispatched an incident response officer, a medic in a response car and two ambulance crews to the scene. We also dispatched London's Air Ambulance and our hazardous area response team (HART).

"Sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene."
