Clap For Our Carers: The North East landmarks which will turn blue to thank the NHS

Landmarks across the North East are set to be lit blue in a symbolic show of thanks for the NHS and social care workers risking their lives during the coronavirus pandemic.

As the nation is once again set to take to its doorsteps at 8pm to applaud the selfless NHS and social care staff, the region's most iconic structures will be lit blue in a spectacular show of respect.

Here is a list of the monuments which will turn blue tonight:

Newcastle

Newcastle Civic Centre

Tyne Bridge

Gateshead

Gateshead's Millennium Bridge

Sunderland

Penshaw Monument

Northern Spire bridge

Fulwell Mill

The White lighthouse at Seaburn

Keel Square and High Street West

South Tyneside

South Shields Town Hall
