Clap for Carers: Watch convoy travel through Edinburgh to thank NHS Heroes battling coronavirus

A convoy of around 30 vehicles travelled through Edinburgh last night blasting their horns as part of the weekly Clap For Carers.

Organised by John Salton and Kevin Mcleish, the convoy of cars, recovery vehicles, vans and more travelled from Hermiston Gate to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

The weekly Clap For Carers takes place on a Thursday at 8pm, with people across the UK taking to their doorstep to clap, hit pots and pans and cheers to show their appreciation for NHS and social care workers on the coronavirus front line.

Nicola Sturgeon also took part in the celebration, as well as a piper in Leith who played a rendition of Happy Birthday for the NHS fundraiser Captain Tom who was celebrating his 100th birthday.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon tweeted a video of herself applauding outside her front door, saying: “Thank you so much to everyone working hard every day to care for us and keep our essential services going #ClapForOurCarers #ClapForTheNHS."
