Claire Sweeney hits out at 'fat-shaming' over claims she's put on two stone

Claire Sweeney has hit back at claims she's put on two-stone, as she accused critics of "fat-shaming" her.

The TV star, 48, appeared on the cover of a magazine that accused her of being "miserable" after gaining weight while she was abroad.

One the cover was a picture of Claire in a slinky black dress on the red carpet, which was compared to a candid shot of her in the street.

She posted: "I cannot believe that in this day and age, mags are still fat-shaming."

The actress, who shot to fame as Lindsey Corkhill in Brookside, also accused the mag of being insensitive during Mental Health Awareness week.

Claire said she was lucky to be thick-skinned but worried about the mental health of other celebs in an impassioned tweet.

She added: "I've been in the business long enough to grow a thick skin, however I worry about those in the public eye who may not be so strong.

"Particularly relevant on Mental Heath Awareness Week."

Her famous friends were quick to send her messages of support over the cruel cover.

My Family actor Robert Lindsay tweeted: "I can only admire your beautiful generosity in embracing #mentalhealthawarenessweek2019 when you have been so personally assaulted by scum that you are so toweringly above x."

"That is seriously ridiculous!!! Really??? With you 100%," Emmerdale's Liam Fox said.

Gaby Roslin wrote: "Utterly disgusting. Sending love to you @clairesweeney and I want to know why this is still ‘allowed’ I am sorry that anyone is ever spoken about like this."
