Claire Foy to return to The Crown in series four for ‘flashback’ scene

Claire Foy has been spotted filming a ‘flashback’ scene for the fourth series of The Crown.

The actress, 35, starred as Queen Elizabeth II in the first two seasons of Netflix’s royal drama, playing the monarch in her twenties and early thirties.

She has since handed over the role to Olivia Colman, who stars as the Queen in series three and in the upcoming fourth season.

Foy has now been photographed recreating the Queen’s 21st birthday speech in what appears to be a ‘flashback’ moment.

Photographs obtained by the Daily Mail show Foy wearing a white dress and pearl necklace for the scene, while sat at a table in front of an old-fashioned microphone with a BBC label.

The real radio broadcast took place in 1947 during the then-Princess Elizabeth’s tour of South Africa and saw her dedicate her life to the service of the Commonwealth.

Foy’s portrayal of the young Queen was critically acclaimed and earned her a Golden Globe and an Emmy for Best Actress in a TV Series.

The upcoming fourth series is set to take place in the ‘80s and is thought to include episodes focusing on Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor) and his new wife Diana, Princess of Wales (played by newcomer Emma Corrin).

The Daily Mail recently reported that Imelda Staunton could be set to replace Colman in later seasons of the show.

However, a representative for Netflix shut down the claims, describing them as “pure speculation.”

“We are currently filming season four of The Crown but have not commissioned any further seasons as yet,” the spokesperson said.

“Therefore any news on casting remains pure speculation.”

Series one to three of The Crown are available to stream on Netflix now.
