Claire Byrne praised by RTE viewers for interview on dangerous spiking trend

Those who tuned in to Claire Byrne Live on Monday evening on RTE were full of praise for the show as they dealt with the dangerous issue of spiking.

Two women explained their horrific incidents in the past which had seen them spiked while on a night out.

Gardai and pub bosses are currently on alert for more incidents after a sharp rise in the UK, which has led to a new operation being instilled by the police across both England and Wales.

And viewers who were watching Thalia Heffernan and Hannah's honesty were quick to tell of their own experiences.

One said: "The drink spiking thing gives me actual terror. I was spiked when I was a teenager and was sick in bed for 3 days. A male friend saw what was happening and brought me safely home. I was lucky that night

Another added: "My drink was spiked years ago by someone wanting to rob me I presume as my wallet was found on the bathroom floor of the pub. I literally couldn’t walk it was horrific"

Lottie Ryan has opened up about how she and her sister Bonnie were left unable to talk or walk after a terrifying spiking incident together.

Following Thalia Heffernan’s brave account of her own experience with Irish Mirror this week, Lottie said she felt compelled to tell her own story too - in the hopes to open up the conversation and reduce the feeling of embarrassment around the serious topic.

"It happened to me and my sister actually on the same night,” Lottie told her pal Jennifer Zamparelli on her 2fm show on Monday.

“This is many moons ago and I won’t name the venue that it happened in, it’s not the venue’s fault, but I don’t know if it was a regular occurrence at said venue because I had heard about it happening at this place..."

Explaining the horrible ordeal, the TV and radio star pre-empted the story by stating: "I’m not a big drinker. I’m a cheap date. I know how much alcohol I can handle and it’s not very much so consequently I'm not a big drinker.”
