Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has reached 8 million copies sold exactly one year after launch. Sandfall Interactive announced the milestone on April 24, the first anniversary of the RPG’s release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
This great accomplishment caps off a huge first year for Sandfall’s debut game. Expedition 33 launched on April 24, 2025, and quickly became one of the biggest new RPG success stories of the year, passing 5 million sales by October before adding another 3 million over the following months. The game soon became one of the most awarded titles in video game history, and then almost swept the Game Awards 2025 show.
Sandfall also released a small patch 1.5.5 as part of the anniversary. The update is available now and it adds new first-anniversary haircuts for the whole expedition crew. Gustave’s anniversary haircut can be found at the Gestral Merchant near Stone Wave Cliffs, while the anniversary haircuts for Verso, Maelle, Lune, Sciel, and Monoco are available from the Gestral Merchant near Grosse Tête on the World Map.
It’s not a major patch, and Sandfall says not to expect any exciting announcements like a major DLC anytime soon. Still, in 1.5.5, the new cosmetics are joined by a handful of fixes, including a bugfix for the Danseuse outfits for Lune and Sciel, which previously made the character menu too dark. Sandfall also fixed an issue that stopped players from opening rest points in some locations while in-world dialogue was playing, further cleaned up collision problems in several areas, and adjusted achievement text for consistency.
The 8 million milestone happened shortly after another major awards win for the team, as Expedition 33 won Best Game at the 2026 BAFTA Games Awards, where it also picked up Debut Game and Performer in a Leading Role for Jennifer English’s performance as Maelle.
All things considered, it couldn’t have been a better year for Sandfall. The game got all the major honors, amassed incredible sales numbers, and gave any upcoming project the dev team cooks immediate “must play” status by half the gaming world. The devs themselves also never stopped working, fixing the game, adding free content, and supporting the community throughout.
