Claims outdoor sex has increased at dogging spot since lockdown began

A resident claims that outdoor sex has increased at a local beauty spot since lockdown began.

The act of outdoor sex itself has prompted huge fears that covid-19 could spread around the area and antisocial behaviour has also increased.

The BBC reported concern from people living close to the beauty spot, which has been notorious in the past for dogging - the practice of watching or engaging in exhibitionist sexual activity in a public place, reports Gloucestershire Live.

According to a report on BBC Radio Gloucestershire's breakfast programme, residents say the problem has got much worse during the lockdown.

One man living in Birdlip told the programme it was happening at lunchtime and after work.

He said: “I will not walk in those top woods any more. I absolutely will not.

“Even as a gay man, I find it quite offensive.”

The police are aware of the issues and have said that indecency is an offence which can result in arrests being made.

Inspector Simon Ellson, who leads the Cotswolds neighbourhood policing team, said: "There is sexual activity which is taking place but there are also other issues in terms of littering, loud music and general antisocial behaviour so there's a combination of factors."

He added that the police were aware that there were reports that the sex was happening in the daytime.

He said the police were patrolling there regularly and signs would be installed to raise awareness of antisocial behaviour.

Officers have gone on patrol at the site before, not just because of complaints about dogging but because of car racing.
