Claims former special constable hid the fact he had been sacked for misconduct

A former special constable hid the fact he had been sacked for misconduct by a previous employer on a job application form to Avon & Somerset Police, it is alleged.

The ex-officer, who has not been named, faces a gross misconduct hearing on Thursday (June 4).

A notice issued by the force outlining the allegations says the former special submitted a vetting form on February 1, 2019, in support of an application for a paid role with the police.

It says: “The form expressly required him to declare and provide details of any previous ‘involvement in misconduct or disciplinary proceedings whether as a paid employee or as a volunteer’.

“He also falsely declared that he had not been involved in any such proceedings when he had, in fact, been dismissed without notice on a previous date from his previous employment, following a misconduct meeting.

“The alleged breaches of the standards of professional behaviour both singularly and collectively amount to gross misconduct.”

The hearing will be held in public from force headquarters in Portishead at 10am.
