Claim Edinburgh bin lorry driver shouted racist abuse sparks full investigation

Claims a bin lorry driver shouted racist abuse at a member of the public have prompted a full investigation from Edinburgh city council.

In a Facebook post which has been shared hundreds of times, a man who lives near Craigentinny said the driver called him a p**i b*****d on Friday morning.

He is demanding that Edinburgh city council take immediate action against the driver. The incident allegedly took place outside his home.

For legal reasons, Edinburgh Live will not be identifying the driver at this stage.

The resident said: "Just been called a P**i B*****d by this clown.

"I dont usually post silly wee things like this but the alarming thing about this one is he works for the Council."

An investigation has been launched and the city council has said hate speech will not be tolerated.

Environment convener cllr Lesley Macinnes said: “It goes without saying that we’re taking this allegation extremely seriously.

"A full investigation is already under way, in line with our procedures. There is absolutely no place in our society for hate speech.”
