Clackmannanshire Bridge closed as emergency services rush to 'ongoing incident'

A major search operation is underway in Clackmannanshire tonight after reports of a person in the water.

Officers from Police Scotland , coastguard and fire crews were called to the Clackmannanshire Bridge just after 9pm.

It's believed someone fell into the River Forth which sparked the search involving lifeboats and a rescue helicopter.

As a result of the incident the A976 road is currently closed in both directions.

A HM Coastguard spokesman said: "We are currently dealing with reports of a person in the water in the Clackmannanshire area.

"We got the first report about twenty past nine.

"We are getting units on scene now to commence a search.

"We've got a Coastguard Rescue Helicopter, Queensferry lifeboat, Queensferry and Kinghorn Coastguard Rescue teams, along with a senior Coastguard Operations officer."

A Fife Police statement read: "Please be aware that the #ClackmannanshireBridge is currently closed due to an ongoing incident.

"Please use an alternative route and we thank you in advance for your patience."
