CJ Stander thinks Ireland have nothing to moan about if they miss out on top spot in Pool A

CJ Stander claims Ireland can't moan about not topping Pool A if they beat Samoa and Japan don't get to fulfil their final fixture.

The hosts are angry that they are perceived as wanting their final pool clash with Scotland to be cancelled, thus providing them with the two points they need to top the pool and avoid the All Blacks in the last eight.

Japan head coach Jamie Joseph has insisted that the Brave Blossoms want to play in Yokohama after winning their first three games while, for Stander, Ireland's loss to the hosts means they can't complain about what happens next.

“We just concentrate on ourselves and it doesn’t matter where we get to," said Stander.

"We let ourselves down against Japan and we dealt our own cards.

"It doesn’t matter what happens, if we get a chance and opportunity to get to the quarters, it’s just about what we can do against Samoa to give ourselves a chance to get into that quarter-final and take another opportunity.

“We’ve learned some lessons and it was good that we learned them then.

"We can’t look at other stuff that’s out of control, like a typhoon or what’s coming up with the Japan game.

"The only thing we can do is what’s coming in the game tomorrow afternoon .What we get is what we’re going to concentrate on and that’s what we can control."

Asked how he would have felt if he was the shoes of the Scotland players right now, who won't know until Sunday morning if their crucial final pool game goes ahead, Stander responded: "Look, I think it's tough, especially when you work hard.

"But there's safety around people and what needs to be done. If I would have been in that situation, personally, it would have been tough as well.

"I'm just thinking about some of the lads' families coming over, flying over and being safe.

"What needs to be done is done and we're lucky enough that our game is going ahead.

"All we can do is concentrate on them now and be ready for the game because it's going to be a big challenge - and it's a game we need to shape up for".
