Citylink bus crashes in city centre forcing several roads to close as passenger describes 'total chaos'

Update: The roads have now reopened

Several roads in the city centre have been closed after a bus crash caused 'total chaos'.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Hope Street around 6.10pm on Sunday after a Citylink bus crashed into scaffolding.

The scaffolding has been left 'unsafe' as a result of the crash.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service are now dealing with the incident and several roads have been shut.

Hope Street has been closed at Waterloo Street, St Vincent Street is closed at Renfield Street and Bothwell Street is closed at Wellington Street.

It's not believed that any of the passengers were injured as a result of the collision.

Two fire engines are currently on the scene and motorists have been asked to follow police diversions.

An eyewitness told Glasgow Live : "A Citylink bus has hit scaffolding on the way up to Buchanan Street so that part of town is in total chaos.

"Luckily we all got off unharmed.

"There had been an accident between two cars at the junction in question just moment's earlier. Both cars were badly smashed (again no injuries witnessed) our bus had seen another bus go wide and round the cars without bother so decided to do likewise but the height of the Citylink bus is higher than SPT buses so it caught the scaffold and as the driver tried to move it simply dug in deeper and that's when I realised it was time to get off.

"I told other passengers at the rear of the bus to look themselves then they decided it was unsafe. The police were on scene in minutes and a policewoman announced everyone was to get off."

A spokesperson for Police Scotland confirmed they were called to the scene and no injuries were reported.
