As Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion prophesied, a bunch of folks who ran Australia’s iconic marathon, City2Surf, should’ve brought a bucket and a mop because it was wet AF! However, it wasn’t the weather that pissed people off, but rather a finish line surprise that had people fuming.
In case you’ve missed all the Strava snapshots and 0.5 selfies, Sydney’s City2Surf for 2025 took place last Sunday. While the weather was quite miserable, with record-breaking rain moistening the route, the event was sold out.

In an attempt to dry off after a 14km jog, some runners brought a spare change of clothes to indulge in some post-mara buffoonery. But in an unfortunate turn of events, multiple mesh bags were left out in the rain, resulting in a second set of wet clothes for the victors.
“Wow, so glad I packed some dry clothes for the City2Surf finish line… Oh wait,” TikToker Isabella wrote.
In Isabella’s video, which has clocked more than 237.1K views at the time of writing, multiple mesh bags containing spare clothes of runners are seen getting drenched by the Sydney rain.
“Can I speak to the manager, please?” one commenter joked.
“HOW were there a million gazebos everywhere else but not where we needed them most?” another wrote.
“I literally couldn’t believe they let this happen. How could they not have a contingency plan, considering we all knew it was going to rain,” wrote a third.
Some runners took their complaints with the bag drop on Reddit, with one user claiming that their stuff was “lying literally in [a] stream of water”.
“When dropping off the bag on [the] dude told me that the clothes would be dry, ‘That’s the whole point of the bag drop’, he said,” the Redditor shared.
“Not having any dry clothes was horrible, and Rip Curl hoodies were sold out quickly as well. [Definitely] a big fail from event organisers. I did dozens of races. First time I had no dry clothes at the finish.”

At the time of writing, City2Surf has not responded to the complaints surrounding the weather and bag drop-offs. However, some punters pointed out that organisers advised participants to bring a clear plastic bag to keep their items dry within the mandatory mesh bag.

As much as I do love a cheeky fitness challenge, I am glad I wasn’t around for this one because that rain was no joke!
Per 9News, City2Surf 2025 was the first wet race day since 2012, and this year’s August is the rainiest since 2016.
It was definitely a sign from the universe that I missed out on sign-ups (well, it’s mostly because I was lazy, whoops).
