City Winery opens along Chicago River

June 11--If you're feeling a little thirsty June 12 -- and you know you will be, given it's a Friday -- walk over to the opening of City Winery Chicago's new Riverwalk outpost at Marina Plaza, on the south side of the Chicago River between State and Dearborn streets.

The restaurant has re-christened its "West Loop Red," a 2013 blend made at City Winery's 1200 W. Randolph St. location, as "Riverwalk Red" for the new location. Served on tap, it's a blend of California zinfandel, petite syrah, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and merlot, according to Rachel Driver Speckan, the winery's beverage director.

The Riverwalk site will offer a 75-seat, roughly 3,000-square-foot outdoor wine garden and a 14-seat private indoor dining area, according to a winery press release.

"It's very beautiful. Great views," says General Manager Nathan Holgate, noting kayakers and boaters will be able to tie up dockside and get some food and drink.

Choose from five additional house-made wines on tap, plus beers, soft drinks and cocktails. As with the original location, the food menu features salads, sandwiches and soups.

City Winery Chicago at the Riverwalk is at 11 W. Riverwalk South. Open daily, weather dependent, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. through the summer. 312-733-9463, www.citywinery.com/chicago/riverwalk
