The Chicago Riverwalk, a 1.2-mile downtown promenade, brought in $16.5 million in 2019, according to Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s office.
That’s about a $2 million increase from 2018, the mayor’s office said. Officials suggested the increase was likely due to the expanded summer concessions, including the new Community Marketplace. About 750,000 people strolled along the Riverwalk during this year’s peak season.
This year also saw the opening in May of the last section of the riverwalk, a section from Michigan Avenue to Lake Shore Drive.
The riverwalk is expected to remain open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. during the winter season. Concessions are expected to open in May, weather permitting, city officials said.
