City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare - review

Cassandra Clare, City of Heavenly Fire (Mortal Instruments)

City of Heavenly Fire is a fantasy novel, the last in the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare. After waiting to read this book for what seemed like forever, I was not disappointed.

The story follows the events that occurred in the previous book, City of Lost Souls. While Clary and her closest allies try to come up with a plan to defeat Sebastian Morgenstern once and for all; they are forced to question the loyalty of those around them as the enemy gains more influence and power over the Clave.

City of Heavenly Fire is a brilliant climax to a series that will have you gripped from the beginning. Anyone who is a fan of Clare will be used to her ingenious ability to hook you in and leave you begging for more. She is one of those rare authors that manages to encompass various emotions in one chapter.

Finishing the novel was bitter sweet for me because, as gutted as I was to say goodbye to some of the most relatable and lovable characters in a book series, Cassandra Clare introduces readers to a new set of characters (who are considerably younger) that found the basis for her next series: The Dark Artifices.

Therefore, it would be a shame to mourn the ending of The Mortal Instruments as a new one is only just beginning, and with promise from Clare that characters such as Jace and Clary will feature in the new series. One can only be grateful for the beauty that is Mortal Instruments.

City of Heavenly Fire is an exhilarating page turner that you will always cherish. I rate this book 5 out of 5 as it was a beautiful finish to an all time favourite series I will forever hold dear.
