City of Caves open for business again after coronavirus pandemic

One of Nottingham's most popular attractions City of Caves is open for business again.

City of Caves is part of a hidden maze of over 500 original sandstone caves underneath the streets of Nottingham dating back to the dark ages.

Its original entrance was in the intu Broadmarsh shopping centre but that closed last year as development work was going on inside.

Sue Dakin, director of communications, said: "We’re delighted to be welcoming visitors again at both the City of Caves and National Justice Museum.

"The response to us reopening has been exceptional from day one on July 25, with lots of positive feedback from people.

"There have been some changes in the way we do things at both sites. We’ve introduced a new one-way tour at the museum limiting numbers on-site and, again in line with national guidance, only small groups can now tour the City of Caves.

"In making the changes, we set out to ensure people would still have the same great experiences with us.

"The situation at the Broadmarsh centre has had virtually no impact on the City of Caves.

"We worked closely with the City Council to make the reopening happen, and our main entrance to the City of Caves was relocated over a year ago from inside the Broadmarsh centre, to where it is now outside on Sussex Street, near to Nottingham Contemporary.

"Like everyone else in the city, we are keen to see a positive outcome in relation to the Broadmarsh site."

Both sites are open now Thursday to Monday, closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
