City horrified after two 'sickening' stabbings just days apart

ECHO readers have reacted with horror and disgust after another 'appalling' stabbing in the city centre.

The first stabbing saw police called to Concert Square at 1.20am on Monday, June 7, where a man suffered a wound to his left arm while standing in a queue for McCooley's.

The victim was set upon and assaulted in what is believed to have been a targeted attack. The man was left with a "small puncture wound" and needed hospital treatment.

Footage of a separate attack in Liverpool city centre was also recently shared with the ECHO.

The sickening video, shows a fight which is believed to have broken out in Williamson Square in Liverpool city centre this weekend.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances, including when the incident occurred.

Readers took to social media to express their sadness at both incidents.

Edith McCafferty said: "What, another one? Sickening you're not safe in town any more."

Kathy Bisson said: "Something has to be done, this is getting to be almost daily reports.

"We have a fantastic city with some of the best people in the world but you're getting scared to go out! You go out with a knife in your pocket... it's intent. You're looking for trouble."

Alun Leady said: "This city is going down the drain. It used to be known as a friendly, pretty, safe city to enjoy now young kids go around stabbing people in the city centre."

Commenting on the footage of the Williamson Square attack, Tracy Gibbs-Bullen said: "Absolutely disgusting - someone's child that and using a weapon nothing tough about that.

"And to film it, why would you do that? Hope they are ok".

Merseyside Police said CCTV and witness enquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible.

Addressing the Concert Square incident, Detective Inspector Sean Kelly-Martland said: “This was an appalling incident leaving a man injured, fortunately not more seriously, and we are working to find those responsible and bring them to justice.

“The circumstances and reasons behind this attack remain unclear, although we believe that it was targeted at this stage.

“This would have been a shocking incident to witness and if you were in Concert Square in the early hours of the morning on Monday, June 7 and saw anything or anyone suspicious then please get in touch. Information you hold could be vital to our investigation."

Merseyside Police said the incident in Williamson Square had not been reported to the force but that it was aware of the footage and urged anyone with information to come forward.

Anyone with information about either incident can contact Merseyside Police by calling 101 or via Twitter (@MerPolCC).
