City Ground redevelopment latest as Nottingham Forest boss opens up on pandemic fears

City Ground latest

Nottingham Forest have reiterated their commitment to redeveloping the City Ground, but say they are unable to “predict when work will start or finish”.

Work had been due to get underway in May, following the completion of the season, with phase one seeing the Peter Taylor Stand rebuilt to an increased 10,000 capacity.

However, with planning approval still pending, earlier this month the Reds announced those plans have been put on hold “due to delays in the planning process”.

And they have not yet set a revised timescale on when construction work may begin - particularly given the uncertainty around the current coronavirus pandemic.

Lamouchi's fears

Nottingham Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi hopes people “will appreciate the little things” more once the coronavirus pandemic has passed.

The Frenchman has been speaking about the current situation around the globe and on these shores, where it is expected the peak of the outbreak is still yet to come.

The Reds were one of the first clubs to be affected by the virus, with owner Evangelos Marinakis testing positive earlier this month.

The Greek attended Forest’s last game before the season came to a halt - a 3-0 home defeat to Millwall - and a few days later announced he had contracted the disease, although he has since recovered.

Proposed plans

Nottingham Forest's season could reportedly come to a close in front of empty stadiums, once football eventually resumes.

The Football Association, the Premier League and the English Football League are currently setting out plans to finish the 2019/20 campaign behind closed doors over a period of four to six weeks starting in July, according to football.london.

A firm emphasis has been placed on finishing the season by football bosses, therefore avoiding the potential ramifications of an unfinished competition, including big money being lost in revenue for clubs.

The UK is currently under a lockdown, as imposed by Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday evening, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Lolley's thoughts

Nottingham Forest ace Joe Lolley has had his say on suggestions for how the Championship season could come to a conclusion.

Play is currently suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic and there is uncertainty over when matches will resume.

Games will not restart until the end of April at the earliest, although that date is expected to be pushed back further.

It means a packed schedule is likely once football does return, in a bid to get the campaign completed.
