City-fringe acreage set to raise the roof in Cardiff Heights

A city-fringe acreage that has been owned by Australian golfing icon Jack Newton and his wife Jackie Newton for nearly 40 years has been listed for sale and presents a unique find.

The Newtons were looking for something small to breed horses when they found what Jackie described to the Newcastle Herald as a "perfect" property in an English country-style home on 7.3 acres in Cardiff Heights in 1983.

A tree-lined driveway leads to the six-bedroom home, which the Newtons extended to wrap around an 18-metre in-ground swimming pool.

The home is at the heart of the property, which has five secure paddocks, three stables, feed and tack sheds and a dam that is supplied by a natural spring. Ironbark Creek also runs through the edge of the property at 219 Wallsend Road, which is known as Augusta after the Masters Tournament course in which Jack was runner-up in 1980.

The property is fully fenced with partial electric fencing and automatic water feeders.

The Newtons have loved the tranquility of the property, which feels miles from anywhere but is within close proximity to everything needed for modern family life. And, while it is perfectly suited to quiet and private family living, it is equally ideal for entertaining on a grand scale.

A formal dining room extends to the wrap-around verandah and alfresco area surrounding the pool, which is nine-foot deep at one end and through to one of the biggest private pools in Newcastle.

There is a 1000-bottle wine cellar, home office, formal lounge with a full-height fireplace handcrafted with stones from Ironbark Creek, and an open plan country kitchen and living space with raked ceilings and exposed timber beams. There are hardwood floors, a soft colour palette and views through windows from every room.

The master suite has an ensuite and walk-in dressing room and the main bathroom features a shower, spa and double vanity. There is an additional bathroom off the large games room, which has a wet bar. It occupies one wing of the home and transitions easily to the pool area or to a flood-lit tennis court.

A four-car carport completes the picture-perfect lifestyle property that is located 13 kilometres from Newcastle's city centre.

It is 7km from Warners Bay and the shores of Lake Macquarie, 10 minutes from John Hunter Hospital and Newcastle Private Hospital and within easy access to the M1 Pacific Motorway.

It is being marketed by Peter Aloupis, of Green Street Property, with a guide of $2.95 million to $3.245 million and expected to set a suburb record sale for Cardiff Heights. Inspections are by appointment.
