City centre street still blocked off after Storm Ciara closure

Some road closures are still in place following Storm Ciara.

A number of roads across the city and county were closed or impacted by falling trees and other debris during the storm on Sunday, February 9.

In Nottingham city centre, Exchange Walk near the Old Market Square was closed on Sunday, February 10 after a chimney stack was deemed unsafe in the high winds.

A spokesman for Nottingham City Council confirmed the chimney was being assessed and hoped the road would be reopened later today, (Monday February 10).

A number of businesses within Exchange Walk are affected by the closure including Cex, Ryman Stationary, Blue Banana and the Co-Operative Bank.

Burger King, Natwest Bank, McDonald's and Blacks have not been affected and remain open.

There were a number of roads closed around the city yesterday, including Carrington Street and Queen's Road, however Nottingham Railway Station was open as normal.

Nottinghamshire Police confirmed the road closures were put in place due to "debris and materials coming off the building site" where the new HMRC offices are being built at the Unity Square development.

Wollaton Park and Newstead Abbey were among many open spaces that were also closed as a safety precaution but all city-run parks have since reopened.
